Fruits and Veggies for your Dog

Kelly and I have been dieting together for quite some time, and while I enjoy my fruits and veggies, she's still not a big fan. The only greens she eats is the grass outside. She does enjoy baby carrots. Sometimes she gets sick of those and I give her coin-cut carrots. It works!

Lately I've been experimenting with offering new foods for Kelly to try. Here she is digging into a bowl of her regular food, mixed with cooked, diced sweet potato. Scroll down to the end to see the results.

Before you do, here are some other fruits and vegetables that your dog might like:
broccoli
spinach
celery
carrots
apple
pear
orange
banana
blueberries
pumpkin

Here are some fruits and vegetables you should NOT give your dog:
No Cherries
No Onion
No Grapes
No Raisins
No Fruit seeds and pits
No Mushrooms

Now, here is what was left in the bowl after Kelly finished her meal:

She picked around the veggies and ate all the kibble. Oh well, I guess she's not a fan.
What fruits and veggies does your dog like to eat?

I LOVE carrots and bananas. Eggplant is another no no for dogs - unfortunately, I know from experience! A few years ago, my mom was chopping eggplant and dropped a piece on the floor. I grabbed it before she could and I was pretty sick.

Most dogs won't touch lettuce. I've yet to see one eat broccoli, though.

Great list! Emmett and Lucas LOVE all kinds of fruits and veggies, especially steamed green beans, broccoli, and carrots. They also love pumpkin puree and seedless watermelon. I haven't tried pears or oranges though - thanks for the great suggestions!

When Sherman needed to take an extra few pounds off we mixed in frozen green beans, he loved them for the first month, then I guess he got sick of them because one day he picked them all out and spit them on the floor!

I'm so sorry you got sick from the eggplant Mr. Pip. Thanks for that reminder.

I've never seen a dog eat broccoli or lettuce either Alex.

Although Emmett and Lucas seem to love their greens! What good boys!

Haha Sherman sounds just like Kelly, spitting out the "good stuff." I'm going to try frozen green beans, though.

We cats are not fans of any veggies except grass. But we dogs enjoy fruits and veggies. Even lettuce. When Jan is working with lettuce, we dogs line up so she'll throw us pieces. And she mixes cooked chicken with rice and peas or green beans for us.

Chance is the hog monster and will eat about anything. He loves cucumbers, asparagus, green beans, peas, carrots, radishes, corn, and well, he'll just about try anything once! I don't give my dogs any fruit though I'm sure they'd take it.

I have one dog that will eat most anything. She loves sweet potato. Then the other dog won't eat anything much including her own dog food. My one dog will even eat salad.
Hope you have a great week end.

I'm more adventurous in the eating department than Brudder Ranger is but I'm still not wild abouts fruits and veggies. I like veggies more than fruit. Celery's good. And so is corn. I like tomato sauce but not regular tomatoes. Oh, and I think watermelon is really good. But not cantaloupe.

My granddad's dog LUVS green bell pepper! He'd rather have a green bell pepper any day over his kibble. I think that's kinda looney-tunes.

Grayce loves her green beans. I put them in her food to help fill her up but still keep her fit. We also use them as treats too.

I fostered a weim once who needed to lose weight so I was trying to do the green bean diet- she did just like your dog and ate all around the green beans.

We feed our dogs Force from the Honest Kitchen. The included vegetables are dehydrated (and then rehydrated). Ty & Buster eat EVERYTHING. When they are done consuming the food, they continue to lick the bowl to get all of the taste!

I cook for Indy. The recipe is from Dr. Michael Fox's (the holistic vet) website. It's basically whole grain rice with carrots, chicken, and various spices such a bone meal, wheat germ, brewer's yeast, and sea kelp.
He loves it!

Hi- Just a thought- I do a lot of homeopathy with my dogs and cats and I use Pumpkin for constipation or diarrhea. I keep it frozen and take it out as I need it. With my guys now it works for constipation. My old dog that has since passed- it worked with diarrhea.
Also the veggies that give you gas will also give your dog gas.
Just thoughts...

I've heard lots of recommendations for pumpkin so we'll be trying that out soon.

You're right, it is a good idea to introduce those gas producing veggies in small bits to see how your dog handles them.
