Monday Pet Roundup

Hi and welcome to Monday Pet Roundup!

* My dog Kelly was having her ear checked out this weekend (poor Kelly!) and the vet reminded me of the ongoing pet food recall for Iams and Eukanuba. The salmonella risk can effect humans too, so please be sure to check if you have these brands of food and follow the manufacturer's instructions. The Iams number to call if you have any questions is: 877-340-8823.

* I love this post from WebMD. A study by scientists at Vienna and Oxford universities conclude that dogs imitate people. The research was conducted on dogs opening sliding glass doors. My dog doesn't imitate that, but she does copy my excitement for ice cream!

* If you're expecting a new little one (of the human kind), don't forget to prepare your dog for the new baby.

* Going on vacation? If you need to make arrangements for your pet, this can help: Get 10% off of petsitting services with Fetch! Pet care.

* Also, more people are rethinking the safety of bringing dogs and cats on airplane cargo areas after the recent tragedies. CNN offers tips for flying with your pet.

* Can cats and dogs get along? This Mercury New column by Gary Bogue features letters from readers sharing stories about their cats, dogs, summer walks and gardens.

What about you? Do your pets imitate you? And do your cats and dogs get along?

Thanks for all the helpful information! Preparing pets for coming babies is so very important. My parents spent lots of time preparing me and my feline sisters for the arrival of our new human little sister. She is now four years old and we have all adjusted very well. She is wonderful with animals and we are all very good with children.

Your pal, Pip

Very cute picture today! I had heard about the problems of the animals in the hold of the airplane. What a tragedy and so sad for the parents of those animals.

Thanks for the extra info on traveling with pets! I have personally used Continental and I know they are really strict on what you need to ship dogs/cats, and they only take them as cargo not as baggage on planes. I have traveled with my cat on international flights about 4 times in Continental and they have always been really good. It is important to be super super informed about what the airline offers and to make sure your dog/cat is in good health to travel.
Thanks for the nice Monday Pet Roundup!

Yes, our dogs definetly imitate us. I am more serious and when the dogs are home with me, things are more well, serious. But when my crazy, laughing singing husband gets home, they are running in circles, barking, and jumping off the walls, because he always excited to be home!!

Hi! Barbie opens the flyscreen door if I don't click it shut properly. Bender 'knocks' on doors when he wants to come in. They both like sitting on couches and human beds.... they will both run if I do... and I think they yawn when i do! So I think they do copy me sometimes.
