Pet Blogger Challenge

Go Pet Friendly and Will My Dog Hate Me created this blogging event, so pet bloggers could unite and reflect upon what we’ve each accomplished on our blogs thus far, and develop a vision for where we’re heading in 2011. I'm happy to participate, and looking forward to checking out the other participants and learning more about you!

1. When did you begin your blog? About 2 years ago.

2. What was your original purpose for starting a blog? Admittedly, my original purpose was rather vague. I am a full time freelance writer, and it just seemed like a good opportunity to write about something I love, and to learn more about the digital world.

3. Is your current purpose the same? My purpose has definitely refined.

If not, what’s different? My desire is to share interesting pet news and tips that I hope will help and inspire others, and to connect with other pet lovers.

4. Do you blog on a schedule or as the spirit moves you? On schedule (I love schedules!)

If the former, how often — and what techniques do you use to stick to it? I blog on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The best trick I've found is scheduling posts in advance.

5. Are you generating income from your blog? No

If not currently, do you hope to in the future — and how? No, I don't plan to generate income, but I do hope that my blog might generate a bit of interest in my books and articles.

6. What do you like most about blogging in general and your blog in particular (bragging is good!)? I love the comments! And I always return the favor and comment back to anyone who comments on my blog. It is so encouraging to know someone is really out there reading!

7. What do you like least? I guess I would say that I like the least how time consuming it can be to research, write, post, follow others, comment (although I love doing it!), and keep up to date. It is difficult to do this well, and also eke out time for my freelance writing, editing, other jobs, dog, housework, family, and life!

8. How do you see your blog changing/growing in 2011? I hope to connect with even more bloggers and pet lovers!

Thank you Amy and Edie for this challenge!

Very interesting interview and this let us know more about you and your blog too.
I always admire bloggers who schedule posts in advance, it needs a lot of discipline and I find it is hard for me to do so : )

I enjoyed reading more about your blog and your goals for this year!

In response to your question last week about our picture...I was just playing around in Picnik, photo editing, I changed the color of the pic to black and white and tinted the ball orange! I had no idea what I was doing! (don't tell anyone:)

We took the Pet Blog Challenge too! Like you, we love getting comments the most. Our Mama used to have a blog about taking care of kids, back when she did that... and she says WE got more readers in our first TWO WEEKS than she EVER got on her blog! We think pet people are just friendlier in general, maybe.

I love these kind of challenges! I'm up for it. I think it's a great way to reflect on where we've been, where we're going and also the good and the bad... A great way to set some new goals for Lucy & I! I also enjoyed hearing about how you feel about your blogging experience. It's a different take on the whole situation. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for joining in the challenge, Peggy. Even though I've been reading your posts for a long time, I still learned something new. Scheduling posts in advance seems like a wonderful idea - I just wish I could get there. More discipline needed, I think.

Good point - the comments are a great part of blogging. It's nice to know you aren't writing in a vaccuum. :) Enjoyed reading your answers to the challenge!

We have the comments in common, for me they are also the best out blogging. Thanks for your advise on the schedule!

Hi there Ms Peggy. It's good to meet you :)

I AM impressed that you schedule your posts. That is terribly organized and very industrious of you. I'm not sure I would be capable of that!

It's interesting that so many writers who earn money for their words are also happy bloggers who share those words for free. Almost like a little time out place.

I will be back to read more. Until then, thank you also for dropping by and your kind comment. Have a great day!

I am right there with you: If only we could get paid to read and comment on other blogs! Or, at the very least, I need more time in the day to maintain my workload, blogging, and reading/commenting on others' blogs!

Hi Peggy! Thanks for stopping by Banjo & Millie today. It's so much fun meeting other bloggers and learning about their blogging endeavors. Thanks so much for sharing!

I could hug you for #7 - you just summed up the blur that was the last two years of my life. This addiction can be a giant time eater.

Do any of us ever really stop refining? :)

#7 is a big one for me, too. I try to make time at the end of every day to make sure that I have read & commented on all the blogs that I follow. It takes time, but is is fun :)

I am so glad I found your blog on this challenge! I can't believe I lived so long being unaware. There is a lot of catching up for me to do. This challenge has been a huge success, I think.

Anyway, I agree that time is the hardest thing to get over. Blogging has become this big part of my life, bigger than myself, and it's so hard to do everything I want to do online as well as keep up with everything I want to do offline. There are times when it is a tough choice. Do I sit down and reply to these comments or do I go out and play with my dog?

I am really interested now in exploring your site and getting to know you a little better. Thanks for the kind words!

I love reading the comments as well! Feels so good to feel part of such a supportive group :)

I love that you list the things that make blogging so time consuming. I think there is a perception with the uninitiated that posting is all that's required, an "If I write it, they will come" mentality. There is so much more to blogging than just popping out posts and, while I too love every aspect you list, the time investment can be a bit overwhelming!

I think that's where most of the guilt comes from in my own blogging. It's not about preparing to schedule posts so much as scheduling time to engage with the community outside my blog. That's always the challenge.

That is one darn cute dog you have there. Am I seeing a touch of cocker spaniel?

Peggy Frezon said...

@Debbie Jacobs We got her from a rescue shelter so your guess is as good as mine! We agree though, cocker spaniel, long haired dachshund and ???!

Vicky said...

Jeepers, what a cute dog! I look forward to reading more of your work in the future. Nice to meet you.

I agree with you, it's all very time-consuming, unbelievably so! That's the part I don't like myself. It's great to meet you!!

Looks like you hit a nerve when you talked about the amount of time blogging can take (says the woman who is still trying to visit all the challenge bloggers 2 days later).

I think most of us find the time and effort worth it but have to be kind to ourselves when we can't do everything we want to.

I'm really glad so many professional writers weighed in on this challenge. It's neat to get a different perspective from someone who is writing for pay as well as writing for free.
