What are Your Favorite Animal Books?

Today is Read Across America Day.

What's your favorite book about animals? It can be childhood, classic or current. Dog, cat, duck, or elephant. Fiction or non fiction.

Please visit my Guideposts blog, Pawprints on my Heart, to check out my  list of animal books that changed my life. Then come back and let me know some of yours.

I know it's hard to narrow it down! I didn't even include some of the classics like Old Yeller, Sounder or Lassie, and after I posted the list, even more favorites kept coming to me.

I'd love to hear your list. What are some of your favorites?

  1. A Dog's Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron is my absolute favourite book. I don't often read books more than once - I will definitely pick this one off the shelf again (and again).

  12. I have to admit that I don't read much fiction or story type of books at all any more. All my reading time goes into studying (presently I'm reading Canine Nutrigenomics by Dr. Dodds). I did read Dog's Purpose on holidays not long ago, it was a very touching story.

  14. Jack London's book, the Call of the Wild, remains my favorite of all time. But of course, I've read and will continue to read many more pets and animals books, fact and fiction. Being a dog lover I tend to lean toward dog books.

  30. OMG, I can't believe that nobody has mentioned Marley and Me! I love the Chet and Bernie books too.

I really enjoyed the Assassin's Apprentice trilogy by Robin Hobb. It's fiction fantasy -- with dragons and everything! There is a wolf in the stories named Night Eyes that I really took a liking to.
